TOOTH COLORED FILLINGS

With significant advances in dental materials many fillings are now completed with white composite restorations. Our doctors create natural-looking, high-quality dental restorations that may prevent the later need for more extensive treatment.

Tooth-colored restorations are superior to the older silver fillings in many ways. They can restore teeth to their original look and function and help them maintain their strength. In fact, white fillings are the state-of-the-art alternative to rebuild teeth.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TOOTH-COLOURED FILLINGS?

Before

  • They closely match natural tooth color and appearance.

  • They bond to tooth structure chemically and thus do not require the placement of slots, grooves or pins in healthy tooth structure to mechanically retain them.

  • The bonding of white fillings to the tooth restore 85% – 95% of the original strength of the tooth.

  • They completely harden in seconds instead of days required by some other materials.

  • Tooth sensitivity, if any, due to composite resin use is minimal and brief.

  • They may be used on front and back teeth without compromising aesthetics.

  • If damaged they can be repaired.

WHAT IS AN ONLAY?

Onlay is used when the structure of a tooth has been damaged or decayed to such a degree that a filling is not strong enough to restore the tooth’s shape. This solution is like a partial crown and made outside of the mouth according an oral scanning or an impression of the tooth, then glued into place. Onlays usually cover the occlusal surface of the  tooth to be able to resist the pressure which comes from chewing.  The material of the onlay is usually composite with grounded porcelain to make it stronger.

WHAT IS AN INLAY?

Dentists use inlays when the damage of the tooth is deep or compromises the inter-dental connection (contact point). To restore the structure of the tooth we use so called indirect fillings or inlays, because they are made outside of the mouth after oral scanning or taking an impression of the tooth. There are hybrid materials like composite strengthen with grounded porcelain or full porcelain or gold inlays. A special cement is used to fit them into the cavity which creates a strong chemical bond between the tooth and the inlay.

Ardrum Clinic uses state of the art composite tooth colored fillings treatment which takes care of the esthetics of the teeth as fillings match the original color of the patient’s tooth. The skilled clinicians also make sure that the health of the tooth is restored entirely.
